17072017-1

Greece, Bulgaria and Serbia assess that stabilisation of the internal political situation in Macedonia is necessary as well as continuation of the dialogue toward finding a mutually acceptable solution to the name issue. This was concurred at Friday’s meeting in Thessaloniki, Greece between the PMs of Greece and Bulgaria Alexis Tsipras and Boyko Borissov and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic respectively. According to them, this will open the prospects of Macedonia for accession to the EU and NATO. The Greek and Bulgarian media inform that at the joint press conference Greek PM Tsipras voiced support to the EU integration of the region, adding however, that the aspiring members must meet the necessary conditions. With regard to the situation in Macedonia, Tsipras pointed out to the need for establishing peace and stability in the country. He emphasised it was vital a dialogue to be led and mutually acceptable solution to the name to be found, which is the pre-condition for the support of Athens to Skopje’s road to the EU. Asked whether the EU approves for leaders of other countries to discuss a third country, the EC refrained from commenting. EC Spokesperson Maja Kocijancic, asked whether this resembled the old times when leaders of other states decided on Balkan borders, briefly said ‘No comment’.
