At the UN General Assembly on 8 October, Macedonia will refrain from voting on whether to support Serbia’s initiative that the legal basis of Kosovo’s proclaimed independence be reviewed by the International Court in The Hague. From within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs they state that it is a logical step, as Macedonia has not yet decided as to whether it recognises Kosovo’s independence. Should they vote against or in favour of the resolution, they would hold a pro-Serbian or a pro-Kosovo standpoint. “What differed Macedonia from other countries in the region was that our foreign policy was always the policy of a peaceful and an extremely rational country, always taking Macedonia’s state interests as a priority,” stated Vice PM Ivica Bocevski.
