The political party leaders failed to harmonise their stands on the name issue prior to the upcoming round of name issue negotiations.PM Gruevski insisted that the double formula be accepted as a joint stand, whereas President Crvenkovski views the double formula as an unreasonable stand as it is contradictory to the pledges for active and constructive participation in the negotiations. FM Milososki stated that the political leaders were offered to reaffirm their stands on the country’s admission to the EU and NATO, continuation of the active role in the negotiation process and regarding the double formula as politically balanced. Further, the leaders were to agree that the Macedonian negotiators were not authorised to accept a proposal which will affect the identity and that they would put any proposal to a referendum voting. None of this draft-conclusions were accepted. “We will not accept the resolution Slavic Republic of Macedonia or Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia,” stated Ermira Mehmeti from DUI. DPA leader Thaci did not attend the meeting, expressing discontent with the composition of the meeting.
