The stands on whether open or closed candidate lists are more favourable for an election model were presented at the national scientific conference titled ‘Representation and responsibility – open or closed candidate lists, organised by the National Democratic Institute. “The objective is not giving a certain proposal, but making people think in direction of improving the election system and working on finding the appropriate solution for organising the elections,” stated Kim Campbell, former Canada’s PM, in her address at the conference. “There is no definite solution. There are different versions of open lists and the best needs to be found. When discussing change of the election model, care needs to be taken of the fact that Macedonia is a country where family voting is still present,” stated University Professor Renata Deskoska, noting open lists opened possibility for bigger pressure over voters.
